Featured Music: Minor Sounds

Minor Sounds are Brighton based singer/songwriter Mirna Stanich and Warsaw based producer Martin Zietek. The Humming was recorded in a few living rooms in Brighton and Martin’s home studio in a village near Warsaw, bouncing tracks back and forth between them.

The recordings of this LP, their debut, were made between 2009 and 2012. They have drawn influences from their diverse experiences including roots in Croatia and Poland, and living in the States and the UK.

Funded with the assistance of a fan-contribution project on pledgemusic.com, The Humming tipped over its target and saw release on Bandcamp (£5 Digital, £10 CD) just last week. Mirna stated initially about the project:

"Over the last 2 years I’ve been recording an album of 10 songs. I’ve set up a very basic home studio in which I recorded the raw versions of the songs, mainly guitar/piano/vocal. I’ve been also collaborating with a producer on taking these songs onto a higher level, putting in electronics and other instruments. Now, 10 songs have been recorded."

Minor Sounds describe themselves with the tagline "Minor Sounds are perfectly suited to the road movie you've only dreamed of living" and I'd have to add to that the new album for me makes a gorgeous soundtrack to a chilled out weekend. With inclusion on Fat Cat Records 2012 Demo Compilation and attention from BBC Introducing it seems I'm not alone in giving a hefty thumbs-up to the sounds created by Mirna and Martin. Minor Sounds can be caught playing live today (Sunday 22/04) - Head over to the Café des Artistes 'boutique day festival' in Lewes. If that's too short notice then I'm sure that with an album to showcase, there'll be more dates lined up soon.
