Profile: PINS

In today's profile, we bring you PINS; an all-female band from Manchester with quite a buzz gathering around them in the blogosphere. And rightly so!

Having featured the band's debut single Eleventh Hour in our On The Radar feature back at the start of April, I wanted to showcase PINS in a little more depth; today seeming the perfect opportunity as the B-side, Shoot You, is released on shiny gold cassette - it doesn't get cooler than that!

The Mancunian four-piece consist of lead singer and guitarist, Faith Holgate, bassist Anna Donigan, guitarist Lois McDonald and Lara Williams on drums and have a ulta-cool 70's New York punk feel about them; both their image and music. Their gritty, distorted blend of garage rock is synonymous with other bands finding success at the moment such as 2:54 and Beach House, but an element of retro edginess creeps in with similarities to My Bloody valentine and The Velvet Underground.

The thing that makes this band stand out is their ability to transform what could have been average, unoriginal garage rock into something much more appealing. The addition of glorious pop melodies cuts through the fuzz, completing their sound like a glistening, sweet cherry on a cake.

With only one release out, it's exciting to see the band in this early stage with such positive attention surrounding them. Take a listen to their stuff, and if you like it, you can catch them live.
