Still relatively fresh on the scene, Swedish three-piece, Simian Ghost's, second album, Youth has already been tipped as an early contender for album of the year.
Simian Ghost is a body of work that originates from acclaimed producer and songwriter, Sebastian Arnstrom. They released their debut album, Infinite Traffic Everywhere, in 2010, topping the Swedish charts and later received the Record of The Year award. They further established themselves over the course of that year whilst touring with names like Mount Kimbie, SBTRKT and Niki & The Dove, and also remixed a Bjork track. In the last month, they've been championed by esteemed publications such as The Guardian, Pitchfork, Nylon, Mojo, Q and NME, as well as being backed by both Radio one and BBC 6 Music.
2011 saw their first release with UK label and tastemakers, Heist Or Hit, with whom they released their Lovelorn EP in November. Whereas Lovelorn was a wonderfully understated record, focusing heavily on the electronic genre and, in Sebastian’s words was, "a collection of songs all conceived in my messy living room, very DIY", Youth is very much a new direction for Simian Ghost.
Youth perfectly reflects the band's live presence. Lead track Wolf Girl is shimmering and beautiful, while the twinkling guitars in Automation's chorus are synonymous with the likes of French electronica act, M83. With this set, Youth is already shaping up to be one of the year’s musical highlights, so keep your eyes peeled.
Youth is to released on March the 5th through Heist Or Hit / Playground Music and the band will be playing the following dates:
- April 11 – Manchester, The Soup Kitchen
- April 12 – Glasgow, The Captain’s rest
- April 13 – Southampton, Joiners
- April 14 – London, Surya
