Profile: Cow

Surrey-based four-piece, Cow, deliver a refreshing mix of acoustic, pop and soul in their debut single, Sunrise. The song is taken from their 12-track debut album, also named, Cow, (available on iTunes) and is the work of members Mark, Maxine, Ben and Michael. Fresh out of the studio and gigging around the UK, the band have chosen the perfect time to release the single; a summer anthem whisking you back to the sounds of the 60's and 70's.

The familiar vocal melodies and 'ooh ooh' chants in the chorus are instantly recognisable of the great Sympathy for the Devil, by The Stones; undoubtedly one of their biggest influences, they say, along with 60's legends like The Beatles, Janis Joplin, and The Kinks.

The retro sound is also created by the underlying tones of the distinctive and era-defining hammond organ, and together with the entrance of the bongos in the outro, the sound is definitely one of reminiscence.

The main line of the chorus, "Don't make me wait too long, cos baby I'm gunna slide. Don't make me wait too long for the sunrise", has some soulful intonations and slightly darker melodies, but the acoustic guitar driven riff is really what makes this track -a laid-back song dripping with 60's vibes.
