Once getting past the confusion of being told by the doorman that Electric Six were in fact playing on Thursday night, not Ellwood, then being directed instead after a heart-stopping moment up to the first floor O2 Islington Academy 2 venue, it was extremely easy to enjoy a night of ska-infused music.
After 30 years working on their respective ongoing music projects, Vince Clarke (Erasure / Yazoo / Depeche Mode) and Martin L. Gore (Depeche Mode) come together for the first time since 1981 as VCMG to release a brand new album preceded by a series of EPs.
The second of four secret gigs as part of The Secret Sessions at St Pancras International station is due to take place this evening at 6pm, and I can now reveal that the two acts performing are: Rival Sons and Iman.
It's happened again ... Once more I start out intending to write a simple album review and with a little back-catalogue research find myself putting together a full band profile instead ... In this case Ireland's The Holy Roman Army.
The phrase, 'had a hard life', probably doesn't mean too much to most people. Soul and RnB singer, Charles Bradley, certainly knows what it means to have a hard life; spending the majority of his early life on the streets, he's not your average recording artist.
