Against Me! frontman Tom Gabel has revealed he plans to begin living as a woman.
The singer has announced that he will soon be undergoing the process of transition from man to woman and is set to begin taking hormones and undergoing electrolysis treatments in the next few months. Gabel has also revealed that he will eventually be taking the name Laura Jane Grace and will stay married to his wife, Heather.
In a recent interview, Gabel discussed how understanding his wife had been, saying:
"For me, the most terrifying thing about this was how she would accept the news. But she's been super-amazing and understanding."
Gabel also spoke about why he had chosen to go public with the news, explaining:
"I'm going to have embarrassing moments and that won't be fun. But that's part of what talking to you is about – is hoping people will understand, and hoping they'll be fairly kind."
Against Me! released their fifth studio album, White Crosses in 2010 and are currently recording its follow-up.
