GHXST are Shelley X, Chris Wild and Nathan La Guerra. If you have a soft spot for the likes of The Jesus And Mary Chain, White Zombie or Sonic Youth, then this New York-based Noise-Grunge trio will be just up your street.
Not surprisingly, through their influences, GHXST evoke the relics of Nineties Rock, as well as adding their own stylish twist full of killer distortion, bluesy vocals and heavy, driving drums. Dark, brooding, and bursting with aggressive riffs, their tracks are usually characterised by spaced out vocals and tribal pounding percussion.
Rough Trade, the prestigious record shops, have described GHXST as:
"a dark crew who take the cold wave underground’s technology and dynamic - analog synths, faltering drum machines - and cloak it in more stabbing, noise drapes. the ghosts of the uk’s industrial past are never far away on this release, with pulsing bass drums and doomy fuzzed up synths marking out the psychological territory, but there’s a dash of swoonsome shoegaze here to rescue the listener from completely drowning in the darkness. great stuff."
Following the release of EVILWICKEDDESIRE, which compiled their first two EPs (EVIL'S WASTED ON YOU and NO REST FOR THE WICKED) on vinyl LP last year via Paris-based Desire Records, GHXST have now announced a UK tour. Kicking off in June, they'll be celebrating by giving away a free taster of their new single, Doom Girl, released through London's Club.The.Mammoth and Tip Top Recordings. Have a listen below:
You can also listen to EVILWICKEDDESIRE below. They also did a wicked cover of Rob Zombie's Dragula, which you can listen to here. If you like what you hear - go and catch them at a live gig.
