This week Gigseen are bringing you another fantastic concert to enjoy at your own leisure. Our Gig of The Week featured concerts are completely FREE all week - all you have to do is register at Gigseen TV, sit back and relax as we bring you Jamiroquai.
Each week, A Closer Look At... is intended to help you find out a little more about the featured artist and their concert. Or, if you're already a die-hard fan, it's a chance to remind yourself of the talent and spectacle on offer! So if you're wondering why you should subscribe at Gigseen to watch this concert...here's a couple of reasons..
First off, Jamiroquai didn’t get where they are now – single after single catapulting into the charts (over 20 of them to date), 25 million copies sold of Jamiroquai’s seven albums (including 2006’s greatest hits) and a career lasting an era-defying 19 years – by being slack or directionless.
Jay Kay and his band's song-writing approach is somewhat ruthless, stating “If it doesn’t sound good with just a keyboard and a voice or a guitar and a voice, drop it,” proving that sometimes, the simplest things are the best! Watching him perform Live At Montreux, it's clear that his delivery and stage presence is the real highlight, the two-hour plus set bursting with infectious energy and charisma.
The band has gone though several lineup changes during their career, but through it all their leader has remained the same; singer/songwriter Jason Kay, born in 1969, in Stretford, Manchester. After leaving home at the age of 15, Kay found himself homeless and in trouble with the law (by committing petty crimes). After a near-death experience where he was attacked and stabbed, Kay decided to return home and chose to pursue a legitimate career over crime - music.
At first, Kay didn't have a band to back up his compositions, but he quickly came up with his future project's name, Jamiroquai, emerging from the name of a Native American tribe (the Iroquois), along with the music-based phrase meaning 'to improvise'; jam. And the rest, they say, is history!
