Profile: Metronomy

Yesterday, I spent a lovely summers Sunday evening with one song on repeat. That song was The Bay, by a reasonably new band called Metronomy. It made my evening, and was the perfect post-BBQ vibe; uplifting, chilled out, but still with a funky bassline and infectious riff.
However, with that one song stuck on repeat, I got somewhat distracted from listening to the rest of the album - that being their third album release, The English Riviera. Oops..so that's my evening planned out tonight! Have a look at the video below of The Bay, live from Later..With Jools Holland.
Metronomy are named after the musical term for the measurement of time by an instrument, and teemed with the fresh-sounding electro/dance/pop/rock feel, and influences ranging from David Bowie to Pavement, It's a highly appropriate name. I guarantee you won't be able to sit still while listening to the track. The band (or project as he calls it) was founded by producer and multi-instrumentalist, Joseph Mount, after his father gave him an old computer in the late nineties to work his magic on. The rest, they say, is history.
They are one of the most exciting bands I've heard this year and definitely one of my favourite musical discoveries. An obvious soundtrack to the summer; my question is whether they'll stand the test of time and accompany those long autumn and winter nights, too.
If you want to check out another track, here a nice little free download for you; a taster, if you will. The track is She Wants, also taken from their new album.
